Dec. 18, 2018 - MPK Poznam orders Solaris electric buses
The Polish operator has ordered 21 Solaris Urbino electric buses (15 articulated and 6 standard ones). They will be equipped with Solaris High Power batteries and will be suited for both pantograph and plug-in recharging. The on-board equipment includes LED lighting, a passenger information and counting system, CCTV system, USB ports and stop buttons in Braille. «In order to reduce the energy usage of the bus», said the manufacturer, «we will install a photovoltaic cell system on the vehicle roof». The 21 Solaris electric buses will be delivered by the end of February 2020. So far Solaris has supplied over 100 battery buses in Poland and another 90 have been commissioned.
December 18, 2018 - Further Indcar Mobi City buses for Tusgsal
The Catalan transport company Tusgsal (Transports Urbans i Serveis Generals, Societat Anònima Laboral) is specialized in urban services and it has expanded its fleet by once again focusing on the Indcar Mobi City model. The company has recently put into service eight buses of this kind. They are all built on Iveco chassis and they can accommodate up to 37 passengers, of which 17 seated on 2 + 1 rows. There is also an area equipped for a wheelchair passenger with dedicated access to the rear door via an electric ramp.
December 14, 2018 - Electric buses for Amsterdam branded VDL
VDL Bus & Coach has signed a contract in Amesterdam with local public transport company GVB for delivery of 31 electric buses (9 Citeas SLF-120 Electric and 22 articulated Citeas SLFA-180 Electric). The order includes an option for 69 extra electric buses. The manufacturer will also be responsible for the implementation of the charging infrastructure. The vehicles will replace part of the current diesel fleet and will be deployed in Amesterdam from 2020. The electric Citeas for GVB will be equipped with a roof pantograph and the latest battery technology. The articulated version will offer 47 while and the 12-metre Citea will have 31 seats. GVB will use 100% green electricity to charge the buses, so the electric Citeas will run completely emission-free. Alexandra van Huffelen, managing director GVB, said, “In the coming years we will replace our entire bus fleet, some 200 vehicles, with zero emission buses.”
December 13, 2018 - First articulated Irizar ie trams in Barcelona
Four Irizar 18-m electric buses are scheduled to enter service in Barcelona from December 2018 on the H16 line of Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB). These are the first 100% electric, zero-emissions Irizar 18m buses in Iberian town. The Irizar ie tram has four doors with 36 seats, a wheelchair area, electric ramp and a pushchair area, and has a total capacity of 147 passengers. The bus requires a 4-5 minute opportunity charge that will take place along the route through a pantograph on the roof of the bus. In addition, it also require in-depot charging at night. These buses will join the two 12-metre long, 100% electric, zero-emissions Irizar ie buses that have been operating in the city since 2014.
Dec. 11, 2018 - In Finland the first VDL Citea Electric Low Entry
The Finnish public transport company Tammelundin Liikenne Oy has placed an order for two VDL Citea SLE-129 Electric buses. They are the first Citeas Electric in the 'Low Entry' edition since the launch in autumn 2018. The 12.9 m buses with a 40+3 seating configuration and a passenger capacity of approximately 80 passengers, will be fitted with the new 216 kWh battery pack and they will be topped up during operation through a roof-mounted pantograph with a power transfer capacity of 300 kW. The two VDL Citeas SLE-129 Electric for Tammelundin Liikenne will be in operation 22 hours a day. They will be put in service in August 2019 in the Vuosaari region of Helsinki.
December 10, 2018 - Setra buses for Medenbach Traffic
The German bus operator took delivery of 20 new low entry buses of the Setra MultiClass series. The vehicles of the S 415 LE business and S 418 LE business models will be put into service on eight routes in Limburg-Weilburg (central Hesse) on behalf of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbundes (RMV) public transport provider. The Euro 6 buses feature elegant wood-look flooring, a special use area for pushchairs, wheelchairs and bicycles as well as display systems with real-time information for passengers.
December 5, 2018 - First Solaris ebuses in the Baltic States
Jūrmala, Latvia. Here has been placed an order for two electric buses produced by Solaris Bus & Coach. They are the first Solaris ebuses ordered not only in Latvia but in all the Baltic States. The vehicles will be fitted with Solaris High Energy batteries (160 kWh) rechargeable through a plug-in device placed on the right side of the bus, behind the rear axle. The on-board equipment includes air conditioning, three USB charging ports, passenger information system, alcolocks, heated mirrors, cameras monitoring the passenger compartment and the bus surroundings, as well as an emergency button in the driver’s cabin. The two Urbino 8.9 LE electric buses will be in service in Jūrmala in the third quarter of 2019.
December 3, 2018 - Daimler Buses for extended mobility
Today December 3, it is celebrated the "International Day of People with Disabilities", proclaimed in 1992 by Resolution 47/3 of the UN General Assembly with the aim of promoting the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in all spheres of society and to raise awareness of their condition in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. Much has also been done in public transport. In this regard, Daimler Buses reminds that passengers with reduced mobility are welcome every day on Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses and coaches thanks to the low-floor entry, extended areas for wheelchairs and the kneeling function. " Integrated lift systems and floor rails as well as flexible seating solutions", points out the German manufacturer, "enable people with disabilities to reach their destination in comfort and safety on board the Daimler Buses vehicles. For example, operators whose vehicles are used over long distances can convert or remove rows of seats in a few simple steps, for example on the Setra S 531 DT double-decker which offers sufficient space for two wheelchairs in the special version for long distance buses ".
November 28, 2018 - Record gas bus tender in Bogotà
The largest gas bus delivery ever has been placed in the Capital of Colombia for the renewal of Bogotá’s TransMilenio Bus Rapid Transit system. The 481 vehicles will be body built by Busscar on Scania Euro 6 chassis. The supply includes 179 articulated buses on Scania K320 IA 6x2 chassis with 320-hp engines and 302 bi-articulated buses on Scania F340 HA 8×2 chassis (340 hp). The first will have a have a capacity for 160 passengers while the longer ones will carry up to 250 passengers. The new vehicles will replace Euro 2 and Euro 3 buses. Bogotá bus network, originally established in the early 1990s, encompasses 12 lines totalling 112 kilometres, with 1.7 million passenger journeys every day. The public tender for the renewal programme has focused on six of the 12 lines and following the tendering process, the operator SI18 will now provide services for three lines. The Scania/Busscar gas buses will go into operation during the first half of 2019.
November 27, 2018 - Solaris articulated buses for Riga
Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. has been awarded a contract for the delivery of 88 articulated Urbino 18 buses to the capital of Latvia. It is an extension of the framework agreement concluded in 2013 for the supply of 175 Solaris buses to Riga. The first 10 Solaris Urbinos will be ready in 2019, whereas the remainder shall be carried out by the end of 2020. The buses will be 18 m long and will feature a 10.8-litre Euro 6 diesel engine (250 kW) coupled to an automatic transmission. The bus capacity is up to 150 passengers. The vehicles will be fitted with air conditioning system, USB ports, a state-of-the-art surveillance system with ten cameras. So far the Polish producer has delivered a total of 528 vehicles to Latvia, 455 of which have made their way to Riga.
November 27, 2018 - Autonomous bus fleet: first trial in Scotland
Edinburgh will host the trial of the first autonomous full-sized passenger bus fleet. The partners of the interesting project are the bus operator Stagecoach along with Transport Scotland, Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL), Fusion Processing Ltd, ESP Group, Edinburgh Napier University and University of the West of England. The trial will start during 2019 and include five autonomous 11.8m ADL Enviro200 vehicles which will use the dedicated public transport corridor across the Forth Road Bridge. "The buses, operated by Stagecoach East Scotland, will be used autonomously to Level 4 standard which means that a driver must remain on board during any journey in line with UK regulations", explains AlexanderDennis. Once complete, the autonomous buses will provide a service capable of carrying up to 42 passengers 14 miles across the Forth Bridge to Edinburgh Park train and tram interchange. With buses every 20 minutes this could provide an estimated 10,000 weekly journeys. Work on the project is expected to get underway during the second quarter of next year at ADL’s manufacturing depot in Guildford with the first vehicles expected to go into service during 2020. Funding of £4.35million has been awarded by the UK Government through Innovate UK with additional investment from the partners of the project.
November 27, 2018 - Yutong: orders for 100 ebuses in Chile
The giant of the Chinese bus industry Zhengzhou Yutong Bus Co., Ltd has reached agreements to deliver 100 full electric buses to Chile. The model Yutong will supply is E12 Electrical bus equipped with 324kwh power capacity and low energy consumption. The model comes with a 150kw DC charge that will allow full charging in just two hours. The 100 full electric buses will be used to serve the Santiago public transportation system. Yutong’s delivery comes as the Chilean government launched an environmental-friendly urban development policy, part of which includes a program to replace current city buses with new-energy vehicles by 2050. "Yutong has ranked No.1 Chinese bus exporter in Latin America in the past three years", points out the Chinese manufacturer, "with a total of 20,635 buses delivered up to date, making up 54% of all Chinese exports in the sector".
