Nov. 17, 2017 - Mercedes-Benz do Brasil: large order in Ecuador
More than 300 Mercedes buses for Ecuador. Mercedes-Benz do Brasil has won the tender for this large scale order and by the end of the year the Brasilian branch of Mercedes-Benz will deliver these city buses and touring coaches, including 70 vehicles for long distance connections. The first units are already on the streets of Guayaquil, Cuenca and Ecuador’s capital Quito. The robust and comfortable buses out of the plants of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil are well suited for Ecuadorian road conditions. An important factor for the buyer’s decision was the extensive Mercedes-Benz service stations network. During the first three quarters of 2017 the bus sales of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil were on a rise. In South America (without Mexico) the brand with the star delivered around 9,500 buses, 29 percent more than last year.
November 17, 2017 - Iveco and All Blacks still together
Iveco renews its support to the New Zealand's All Blacks rugby champions for the "Vista 2017 All Blacks Northern Tour" which started on November 4th in London with a team win and will end in Cardiff, Wales, on November 25th. As a supporter of the New Zealand team, Iveco will provide three vehicles for transporting players and executives during the tour: a Magelys coach and two Daily Hi-Matic minibuses. In addition, a vehicle signed by all the All Blacks champions (Daily Hi-Matic All Blacks) will be beaten on the CharityStars fundraising online platform (www.charitystars.com) until November 30th. The money earned will be donated to UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund. Iveco also produced a special limited edition of Daily Hi-Matic featured in team colors, for sale in France and Italy until July 2018.
November 15, 2017 - Solaris' record contract in Lithuania
The Polish manufacturer signed a contract with the Vilnius bus operator UAB „Vilniaus viešasis transportas” for the supply of 150 new generation Urbino buses. The contract worth in total over EUR 40 million is the biggest one for a one-off delivery of buses in Lithuania since 1990. The order includes one hundred 12-metre buses with Euro 6 Cummins engine and fifty articulated buses with Euro 6 DAF engine. Delivery of the first unit is scheduled in March 2018 and by the end of the next year all the vehicles will be delivered. The buses will be fitted with full air conditioning, WiFi, USB ports, information system, CCTV, breathalyser and Economiser to take under control fuel consumption and driving style.
November 15, 2017 - A large order for VDL Bus & Coach in Belgium
The Flemish transport company De Lijn has ordered 66 VDL Citea SLE hybrid buses and 55 VDL Citeas SLE in the diesel version. The vehicles will be produced at the VDL Bus Roeselare plant. All the buses are to be delivered in 2018 and early 2019 and will be deployed on various lines in Flanders. The Citea SLE-120 hybrid is 12 m. long and is is equipped with a serial hybrid system with Stop&Go function. "The vehicles for De Lijn", pointed out VDL Bus & Coach, "are designed in such a way that they can move off from traffic lights and bus stops using only the electric motor, without starting the diesel engine. The concept of this Citea SLE Hybrid is modularly customizable to enable even longer journeys to be driven purely electrically. By using an inverted pantograph and a larger battery pack, the electrical autonomy is further increased". The Citea SLE-120 is also 12 meters in length and is powered by a Euro 6 Cummins ISB6.7E6C engine.
November 15, 2017 - Mercedes-Benz Citaro with all-electric drive
The world premiere in September 2018 at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover and series production starting in autumn 2018. This is the plan announced by Mercedes-Benz for the launch of a city bus with all-electric drive system based on the best-seller Mercedes Citaro. "Prototypes have already successfully undergone initial winter testing in icy temperatures at the Arctic circle as well as summer testing in the heat of Spain's Sierra Nevada. The bus is so well-proven that the brand is already tendering for contracts", stated Mercedes-Benz in a press release. The all-electric Mercedes-Benz Citaro is powered by electric wheel hub motors at the rear axle, a system already proven over recent years in the Citaro G BlueTec Hybrid. It receives its drive energy from lithium-ion batteries and it can be charged from a power socket at the depot or, as an option, through one of a range of intermediate recharging solutions. "The modular design of the battery pack means that individually customised solutions can be devised to match a wide range of applications and requirements in city traffic", pointed out the manufacturer, "One of the particular features of the Citaro with all-electric drive will be the meticulously refined thermal management of the bus's drive and climate control systems. This thermal management reduces energy consumption significantly and is tantamount to extending the range of the bus without changing the size of battery".
Nov. 13, 2017 - Electric school bus by Daimler North America
The Saf-T-Liner C2 Electric Bus, in short "Jouley" from the joule unit of energy, is the first all-electric school bus for series production launched by the North American Daimler subsidiary Thomas Built Buses. Starting in 2019, the new electric school bus has a capacity up to 81 kids and is fitted with a 160-kWh battery. The range stated by the manufacturer is up to 160 kilometers but additional battery packs are optional for a higher range. The average charge time is 8 hours average utilizing standard J1772 chargers. "During the development of the Saf-T-Liner C2 Electric Bus", stated Thomas Built Buses, "we were be able to draw upon Daimler’s electric technology resources". Founded in 1916, Thomas Built Buses is the leading manufacturer of school buses in North America with a market share of 38.7 percent.
November 9, 2017 - Setra 100 series: old time vehicles
Some fifty years since the introduction of the 100 series, Setra remembers this successfully range. It was 1967 and for the first time the independent suspensions on the front axle were fitted as standard. "Among other features," points out Setra, "the coaches featured a more angular design and larger passenger compartments with extended interior headroom compared with the models of the preceding 10 series." The 100 series included intercity models, buses for regular services and tourism coaches. Among these, the Setra Panorama offering perfect all-round visibility with its raised floor and considered the forerunner to all high-deck coaches. Produced up to 1976, the vehicles of the Setra 100 were sold in 12,339 units. In the picture, the Setra Panorama coach with gold-anodised outer panelling produced specially for the Swiss company Zumstein next to an S 515 HDH from the current Setra TopClass range.
Nov.8, 2017 - MAN low-floor chassis for Israeli Egged
MAN Truck & Bus has just delivered 50 chassis to the largest bus company in Israel. The MAN A22 chassis will serve as the basis for 12-m city buses bodied by local manufacturer Haargaz. The two-axle low floor chassis will be fitted with a 320 hp (235 kW) Euro 6 engine. Around 40 of these new city buses based on MAN chassis have already gone into service over the last two months. Egged has a fleet of over 4,000 vehicles, more than 1,500 of which come from MAN. The Israeli company transports just under one million passengers every day and operates almost half of all public transport in Israel. The company’s vehicles cover over 700,000 kilometres on 945 intercity and city lines.

Nov. 6, 2017 - Solaris: another contracts on the domestic market
Rzeszów, Poland. The city authorities and Solaris Bus & Coach signed an agreement for the supply of ten 12 meter electric buses and 30 articulated diesel vehicles. Both contracts are scheduled for delivery in 2018 and include the charging infrastructure. The electric buses will be equipped with 87,6 kWh Solaris High Power batteries and an inverted pantograph for fast charging at bus stops or at the terminal. The vehicles will be, as a standard, equipped with a plug-in socket for slower charging. On board there will be LED lightening, air conditioning, WiFi and a passenger information system with voice announcement. The new Solaris Urbino 18 articulated use will be powered by a DAF engine (Euro 6). At present, there are 47 Solaris buses on the street of Rzeszów, including nine vehicles running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
November 3, 2017 - 72 Mercedes-Benz double-deckers for Brazil
Rio Grand do Sul, South Brazil. The local major travel operators have ordered 72 double-decker buses from the Mercedes-Benz range. This is one of the large-scale orders secured by Mercedes-Benz do Brasil buses this year. "During the first three quarters of 2017", stated the German manufacturer, "Mercedes-Benz do Brasil sold around 9,500 bus units surpassing last year’s turnover by 29 percent. Over the last four months new sales of the Daimler subsidiary have risen slightly. Overall Mecedes-Benz is expecting the Brazilian bus market to keep recovering albeit slowly ". Mercedes-Benz buses is market leader in Brazil with a share of 51.7 percent.
November 2, 2017 - First Nogebus' supply in Bulgaria
The Iberian coachbuilder Nogebus landed for the first time on the Bulgarian market with 25 touring coaches handed over to Union-Ivkoni, the country's leading transportation company based in Sofia. The model chosen by the Bulgarian operator is Touring in the 12.2 meter HDH version (one fitted with a lift) and the 12.96 m high decker (HD) with 55 passenger seats. Both are built on Mercedes-Benz OC500 RF1943 Euro 6 chassis. Other ten units are the 37-seat H version on MAN N14 12250foc Euro 6 chassis.
