Sept. 13, 2018 - Wrightbus vehicles with Allison transmission
Guernsey island, English Channel. An additional order for 22 Wrightbus StreetVibe buses equipped with Allison T 2100 fully automatic transmission was placed by the local operators after a previous order of 12 buses with Allison transmission (the buses were delivered in 2017). “The roads on Guernsey are narrow and winding with a terrain that varies wildly,” explained Karl Guille, director of traffic and highway services for the States of Guernsey. “You can be in typical rush hour town traffic, with stop-start driving one minute, and need to accelerate smoothly up a steep hill the next.” The 9.04 metre-long, 2.28 metre-wide Wrightbus StreetVibe was selected as the narrowest bus in its class, with a seating capacity of 31 plus 11 standing. To be compliant with the island’s speed limit, the buses needed to be fitted with a limiter. The Allison T 2100 transmission is mated to a Cummins ISB4.5 Euro 6 engine.
Sept. 13, 2018 - Iveco Bus will supply 141 hybrids to Bruxelles
The transport company STIB-MIVB based in Bruxelles has signed a five-year framework agreement with Iveco Bus for the supply of 141 hybrid-drive buses. These are the Urbanway hybrid electric vehicles in the 18-meter version with a capacity of up to 103 passengers, a determining factor for the Belgian operator. These buses combine an electric drive with a 286-hp Tector 7 Euro VI engine (compatible with the second generation of HVO biofuels). They feature the braking energy recovery system and the "Arrive & Go" function for 100% electric mode with zero emissions. The delivery of the 141 Urbanway hybrid buses is expected from May 2019.
September 7, 2018 - Solaris Bus & Coach officially acquired by CAF
The Polish manufacturer officially announced that CAF has acquired 100% of the shares of Solaris Bus & Coach which will be included to the Spanish Group. CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles) is a Spanish producer with more than 100 years of history and it's listed on the Spanish stock exchange. The company is engaged in the design, production, maintenance and supply of rolling stock and rail vehicles, another area of ​​company’s activity involves the latest solutions for urban transport, including e-mobility. Solange Olszewska, founder of Solaris Bus & Coach S.A., said: "It was not an easy decision for me and my family. Over 20 years ago, my husband and I founded our company that today employs nearly 2,500 people and that is active on more than 30 markets. I know that I am leaving the company in good hands. The CAF Group will continue the best practice in the Solaris brand and will let it grow even more”. “Together with Solaris, we will create a leader in urban mobility solutions beyond rolling stock, particularly in the e-mobility segment", said Andrés Arizkorreta, President and Chief Executive Officer of CAF Group. "We want to continue using and to develop Solaris’ valuable brand and to keep its Polish character. The combination of both companies’ know-how in production, design, technology and services, together with the track record of Solaris in bus product innovation will allow us to better serve our clients while creating shareholder value”.
September 6, 2018 - BYD electric buses for Jerusalem
The first pure ebuses for the capital city of Israel are branded BYD. The seven 12-meter electric buses have been ordered by the public transport company Egged. This order, based on an earlier tender won by BYD in 2016, is part of a larger project, fully supported by the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Environment in Israel, and serves as a spearhead for experimenting and introducing technology for alternative transportation in the public transportation market in Israel. The chinese manufacturer already supplied 17 buses to Haifa, a port city in the north of Israel. The performance of those vehicles, in operation since mid-2017, led Egged to place the additional order for ebuses in Jerusalem. Delivery is expected in the first quarter of 2019.
September 3, 2018 - Busworld South East Asia in 2019
The 3rd edition of Busworld South East Asia will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The exhibition and congress are scheduled on March 20-22, 2019. "Busworld decided to organise a new exhibition in Indonesia because of the promising bus and coach markets in Indonesia as well as in its neighbouring countries", said the organizers. Indonesia has a population of 260 million people (40% of ASEAN population) spread over 34 provinces with 415 districts. Due to traffic congestion by cars, the government of Indonesia is continuously improving the public transport system with for example a Bus Rapid Transit system in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Solo and other provinces. The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation has planned for procurement of 3,000 new BRT system buses in the 34 provinces by 2019.
August 19, 2018 - Diagnostics of Solaris electric buses
The Polish manufacturer has developed the eSConnect remote diagnostic system aimed at optimizing and supporting diagnostic solutions, improving maintenance options and facilitating the analysis of specialized data from vehicles produced at Bolechowo. The data collected include among others information on the bus fleet position in terms of time and location, updated battery status, the mileage covered by any given bus in a given time, energy use or even notifications about all batteries being fully charged. The system will also help in the remote identification of potential errors notified by the vehicle on the driver's panel, in monitoring the operating parameters of the system and in generating statistics. The eSConnect system can be installed on every electric vehicle produced by Solaris Bus & Coach.
August 18, 2018 - Innotrans: Solaris on stage with the e-mobility
At the International Trade Fair for Transport Technology (Berlin, September 18-21), Solaris Bus &Coach will premiere the Trollino 12 trolleybus in a new design and the electric Urbino 12 city bus. Both vehicles will be exhibited in the Sommergarten Bus Display, while Solaris will be at stand n. 304 in the CityCube. At the same time, Solaris will bring closer its latest offer of trolleybuses: 12-meter Trollino 12, articulated Trollino 18 and bi-articulated Trollino 24, as well as the power drives used, optional energy storage and charging systems. The manufacturer will also present the latest technological solutions for heating, cooling and steering, focused on reducing energy consumption, as well as comprehensive investment, which includes not only the supply of buses and charging systems, but also ensures the preparation of their installations including construction works. Another premiere is the remote diagnostic system for electric buses called eSConnect. It enhances and supports diagnostic and maintenance possibilities and also facilitates the analysis of specialist data derived from a vehicle.
August 15, 2018 - Large order for Mercedes-Benz do Brasil
The Brazilian Daimler subsidiary announces the order for 500 buses for Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa. This is the largest export order in the last ten years for Mercedes-Benz do Brasil. The first 200 buses will be exported at the end of August and will be operated in Lagos, Nigeria's largest city. All buses for urban passenger transport will be delivered to the Coscharis Group by the end of the year. Mercedes-Benz do Brasil exports buses and trucks to around 50 countries on different continents, including markets in Africa and the Middle East.
August 15, 2018 - Further Solaris electric buses in Norway
In July, the Polish manufacturer completed the delivery of five Urbino 12 electric buses to Boreal Buss AS based in Kristiansand. This is the second Norwegian city after Oslo to chose Solaris emission-free vehicles. The contract has a value of 3 million euro. The 12-m Urbino electric buses are powered by two traction motors (125 kW each) integrated with the electric drive axle. Energy is stored in 145 kWh Solaris High Power batteries. They are charged via a five-pole pantograph, mounted on the roof, prepared for a power of 300 kW and a plug-in connection. The vehicles are fitted with air conditioning with heating function, USB sockets, LED lighting. The engine ignition is secured by an alcolock. Solaris has been present in Norway since 2006, delivering nearly 550 vehicles to 20 cities. Last year, Norgesbuss and Unibuss received a total of 4 Urbino 12 electric buses, which are running in Oslo.
August 4, 2018 - BYD will supply ebuses in Padua, Italy
The Chinese manufacturer has won a tender for the delivery of six BYD electric buses to Busitalia Veneto based in Padua, Italy. The 12-meter ebuses will be fitted with two doors and featuring BYD’s new frontal appearance. They are expected to be delivered in the third quarter of this year. BYD 12 metre ebuses are already running on numerous streets in Italy. A total of 25 BYD ebuses have been in operation in Milan since 2014 and in Turin and Novara since 2017. Isbrand Ho, Managing Director at BYD Europe: “More and more Italian cities are choosing to go green and electric and are opting for BYD. We are anticipating a significant rise in sales of our ebuses in this southern European country after the great news on recent tenders we won in the northern countries of Sweden and Norway. Italy has become a key market to us and we are looking forward to even more orders in the near future.”
August 4, 2018 - Busworld China in Shanghai on March 2019
After an interval of 7 years, Busworld Asia will come back in 2019 under a new brand- Busworld China. Organized by Busworld International and VNU Exhibitions Asia Ltd., the fair is scheduled on March 11-13, 2019, at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center (SWEECC). The focus will be on global futuristic public transport and clean energy. Concurrently at Busworld China, a Busworld Academy Congress will be held onsite to discuss and share in focus upon technologies regarding ride-sharing, autonomous driving and fuel cell etc. with the integration of speakers domestic and overseas.
July 31, 2018 - 15 Irizar ie trams for Aix en Provence
Irizar e-mobility has signed a contract with the transport company RDT 13 based in Aix en Provence, France, for the supply and maintenance of 15 twelve meter Irizar ie tram zero emissions buses with charging infrastructure. These high service level (BHNS) buses, which have been called L’Aixpress, will join the western part of the city of Aix en Provence with the southern part. The line will run 7.2 km and it will include 19 stops. The project will include the installation of pantograph type opportunity charging stations at the beginning and end of each line and other smart charging stations in the depot. The first vehicle will be delivered in April, 2019 and the rest will be put into service in September of the same year, as soon as the BHNS L'Aixpress line is operational.
