Solaris has won a large tender in Cracow, Poland
Solaris Bus & Coach is the winner of the tender held by the Cracow City Transport, Poland, for sixty low-floor and low-emission city buses. The model is the new Urbino in the length od 12 m. The value of the contract amounts to €17 million. Deliveries are scheduled in June 2016. The sixty 12-metre Urbino buses for Cracow are to be fitted with eco-friendly DAF engines which meet the Euro 6 standards. The kinetic energy recovered during the braking process may be stored in supercapacitors and reused to supply electric equipment on the bus. "Cracow is one of our most important customers not only on Polish market, but all over Europe. We are very proud to supply Cracow City Transport with such a large fleet of Solaris new-generation buses. We will make every effort to ensure the passengers and drivers are satisfied with the quality of the journey,” said Eberhard Wolters, member of the Solaris Bus & Coach executive board of directors for Marketing, Sales and After Sales.

Italian bus operator Air Pullman based in Milan took delivery of ten Iveco Magelys PRO. Top model in the Iveco tourist coach range, Magelys is 'International Coach of the Year 2016 ". The new vehicles will be used on long distance routes, both in Italy and Europe, operated in partnership with the German transport company FlixBus. Four of these coaches will enter into service on the new line Milan-Paris in the green/orange personalized livery. Passengers on board can benefit from an adequate space between the seats, Wi-Fi, 220V outlets and USB, folding LCD monitors. The engine is the 8.7-litre Euro VI Iveco Cursor 9 coupled to the automatic ZF AS Tronic transmission.

Irizar is attending for the first time the UMA Motorcoach Expo (Atlanta, January 31-February 4). This is the leading trade fair in USA for the coach&bus sector. Irizar chose to introduce the Irizar i6 model into the market. The two versions of the i6 model which will be available in the North American market were presented at the 4,800 square-foot stand. Both versions are 45-foot long integral coaches with a Cummins 13l engine and Allison automatic transmission. The i6 models are available in a height of either 12.23 or 12.89 ft. These vehicles have been fully developed to the needs of North American operators, comply with all DOT requirements and are manufactured entirely in the European Union. "Irizar arrives in the USA with a strategy to work closely with operators providing them with the best products and services tailored to their needs and to position itself as a premium brand in the coach market, a goal it will aim to achieve with the support of the exclusive local distributor, INA Bus Sales", it said in a Irizar's press release.

On February 2, the trolleybus Crealis Neo had its inaugural run in Bologna, Italy. This is the first of the 49 vehicles acquired by Tper (Passengers Transport Emilia-Romagna). Produced by Irisbus, Crealis Neo is an articulated bus with electric drive and is fitted with an engine (280 kW) powered at 750 volts DC. It is featured with an auxiliary group with low emission of pollutants which allows the bus to run without power from the overhead trolley-bus network. The auxiliary group consists of an Euro VI Tector 4 engine and an alternator with a power output of 100 kW. The vehicle is featured with the optical guidance system which will allow, once completed the infrastructure works, the precise combination at stops. Passengers on board are up to 142, 29 of which housed in the large seats. The driver's seat is in a raised position for better visibility in city traffic and the maximum comfort of the driver.

In early January the Finnish bus company Pohjolan Liikenne put on service the first VDL Futuras in Finland. The two vehicles are the two axles Futura FMD2-135 coaches in the new length of 13.5 metres. They are fitted with 49 passenger seats, ensuring plenty of space for passengers' legs. Both the luxury coaches were customized for Pohjolan Liikenne to include a snack and coffee machine, passenger information system, 230V power outlets at each seat and Wi-Fi. The two new Futuras are used for intercity service between the cities of Helsinki and Turku.

VDL Synergys for Bus Éireann
Ireland’s largest national bus and coach network Bus Éireann took delivery of 27 VDL Synergy double deck coaches. These deluxe coaches, which are part of a very significant investment in Bus Éireann’s fleet by the National Transport Authority in Ireland, will be used for commuter services in the Greater Dublin Area. The VDL Synergy double deck coaches supplied to Bus Éireann are the 14.1 metre version on a VDL SBR-4000 chassis, powered by an Euro 6 DAF MX-13 375 engine coupled to a ZF AS Tronic automatic gearbox. The vehicles are featured with wheelchair access and folding ramp in the mid door, destination sign, payment table, ticket machine, full CCTV system, WIFI, 220 Volt power sockets, USB power sockets and comfortable leather trimmed seating. The safety equipment includes Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS) and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS).

Scania Citywide Hybrid for CRTM Madrid
Scania announced the order for 46 units of its hybrid model Citywide to various companies connected to the CRTM, the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid. The vehicles, all in Class II, will be delivered in the second half of 2016. The Scania Citywide Hybrid is a 100% Scania vehicle with parallel hybrid technology and battery combined to the 9-litre Scania diesel engine (320 hp) with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction). This is a solution that reduces both fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The body is aluminum and it is versatile as to adapt to the specific customer requests.

Yesterday morning died Mustafa Koc, CEO of the largest industrial group of Turkey, Koc Holding which is Fiat partner for decades and owner, among the other companies, of Otokar Otobüs Karoseri San. A.Ş. The Turkish industrial, 55 years, was struck by a heart attack. At the head of the Group since 2003, Koc was the leader of the third generation of one of the largest industrial dynasties of Turkey, founded in the Twenties by the grandfather Vehbi Koc. Koc Holding has interests in several sectors including automotive, energy, consumer electronics, financial services, defense, construction, retail. The Group employs 95,745 people and 14,000 dealers and after-sales service agencies. With more than one hundred subsidiaries (including 16 listed on the Istanbul Stock Exchange), Koc Holding is about 9% of Turkish exports and 8% of the GDP of the country.

The new Solaris Urbino 12 electric bus has been awarded Bus of the Year 2016 in Spain. The awards has been given by the Spanish trade magazine Viajeros. The official awarding ceremony took place in Madrid. The jury was composed by representatives of the most important public transport companies in Spain as well as by local experts in the automotive field. The jury paid attention to such parameters as reliability and environmental friendliness. Emission-free and clean, the 12-metre Urbino 12 electric bus was premiered at 2015 Kortrijk Busworld. The electrically powered Solaris bus can be fitted with different kinds of batteries of various capacities. Solaris offers many configurations also for charging systems: plug-in, pantograph or inductive charging systems depending on the infrastructure of customer. The Bus of the Year title in Spain is a further success of Solaris on electromobility. Currently Solaris battery-powered vehicles are running in Austria, Germany, Sweden and Poland. In the nearest future electric Solaris buses will start operation in Barcelona. Additionally the awarded model of the new Urbino has been tested in Paris and soon will be on service in Hamburg and Hannover, Germany, as well as in Tampere, Finland.

The GT Radial GAU861 is a tire for all positions developed for city buses by Giti Tire. Recently the tire achieved the "three-peak mountain snoflakes" certification (3PMSF: three mountain peaks with snow flake). The tire is available in size 275/70 R22.5 for steering axles and drive axles configurations typical for city buses. The M + S label guarantees the excellent performance of traction and braking on snow and in general in winter conditions. Among the plus of GAU861, the protectors of the extra-reinforced side for maximum strength under braking and shock and the tread depth of 20.2 mm for a good mileage and reduced noise for greater passenger comfort.
